The UBC Library Research Commons and UBC Future Waters research cluster recently received an innovation grant from UBC Library to pursue their idea of a prototype for a research network visualization.
The library team, consisting of Eugene Barsky (Head, Research Commons), Allan Cho (Research Commons Librarian), and Ekatarina (Eka) Grguric (Digital Scholarship Librarian), will collaborate directly with Alice GuimarĂ£es, a PhD student in UBC Mining Engineering and the UBC Future Waters cluster designate.
The immediate aim of the project is to connect the work of undergraduates, graduates, researchers, and faculty in water research at UBC, with a long-term goal of providing an ongoing model of visualizing research collaboration applicable to any area of research. Through analyzing science databases, publicly available data on Wikidata, and citation sources, the team hopes to reveal areas of overlap and to visualize potential points of collaboration. By uncovering insights into how research is taking place at UBC, we can identify topic gaps and help forge connections.
Stay tuned with the Research Commons newsletter (subscribe here) to find out where the project goes next! If you have any questions related to this project, please reach out to us at: research.commons@ubc.ca.
