new Array() Exhibition Space

new Array() is an 18-month pilot pop-up exhibition dedicated to showcasing innovative digital scholarship and digital art by UBC students, faculty, and staff from both campuses. The selected works will be screened in high-traffic areas on the fourth floor of Koerner Library at UBC Vancouver, and in the Sawchuk Family Theatre at UBC Okanagan. Accessible to both the university community and the broader public, this initiative will feature a rotating series of static images and video works, displayed on an 80-inch monitor in a space with comfortable seating in Koerner Library and a 9-by-16 ft screen in the Sawchuk Family Theatre.

new Array() addresses the growing importance of digital scholarship and creative practice in higher education. The name references the programming term for creating a new, dynamic collection and reflects our commitment to fostering experimentation, diversity, and renewal in academic and artistic expression. This space serves as a platform for emerging voices, encourage interdisciplinary collaboration, and highlight the work being done at UBC in the intersection of technology, research, and creativity.

new Array() aims to:

  • Support Digital Literacy
  • Showcase Innovation
  • Foster Community Engagement
  • Develop New Connections with UBC Faculty, Staff and Students
  • Encourage Collaboration

Submitting your Proposal

All selected works will be screened at both UBC campuses, and we welcome submissions from both Vancouver and the Okanagan.

All the information needed to submit a proposal is included in the Call for Proposal file, located below in either Word or PDF format. Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis and you will receive a response within 3 weeks. The Call is not discipline specific (beyond requiring projects to be digital in some way), and we hope to receive a wide range of proposals. Even if you’re not sure your project is the right fit, we still encourage you to submit!
